Marrunga Yubaa (Sweet Rain) – Against the Elements Against the Elements – Series 3 – Golden Skies
Collection: Sweet Rain Series
Year: 2023
I pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging and acknowledge the traditional owners of this land on which I was born and raised.
The Sweet Rain series is designed to ignite imagination and celebrate life. It signifies a raindrop’s journey from the clouds to the earth and its importance to the land and our lives. The ancient traditional Aboriginal symbol of rain is portrayed through my contemporary artistic lens. I have designed the symbol to have a cup of delicate dots surrounding just the bottom of each coloured stroke, rather than a continuous line. The colour of each drop signifies part of my life story and is applied in layers of fine art strokes.
With many of my artworks, the inspiration for each of them comes from within. They are thoughts or a feeling wanting to come out. The colours I have explored in this artwork are reminiscent of my sometimes vibrant and unique imagination. Have you ever been caught in a rainstorm that it feels like the rain is coming in sideways and there is no escape? This is very much how I envision my life at times no matter how hard I try to get through life, sometimes things just keep going sideways. Even though the impact of the weather can be harsh at times it is finding that inner strength that pushes me through the toughest of elements.
I now choose to let the rain wash away past pain and have learnt to be patient for the storm to pass, because I know beyond the dark clouds there is a golden sky.
I would like to leave you with a beautiful quote that I read recently and was so inspired by.
“ Not all storms come to disrupt your life – some come to clear your path” - Anon
